In 1951 John and Louise Baer returned from Europe to their East Village apartment and reconnected with a community of writers and artists. John walked the streets of Manhattan and Brooklyn capturing the lives of ordinary people—workers paving Fifth Avenue; couples on park benches; men and women on their way to work.
